News and views - October 2021

Although Christmas decorations are on supermarket shelves it is not holiday time yet! But we can still present you with some exciting news.

Very significant news this weekend is our announcement of the change of date and venue for our 2022 R4 World Rafting Championship.

We are also extremely delighted to announce that the IRF's historic GAISF Observer Status has been renewed for another two years, and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has officially accepted the IRF as a signatory of the WADA Code. These are important steps for the IRF towards greater international recognition for our federation as well as for our sport.

In other racing news the Ibar 2021 Euro Cup Series event brought the EC Series to a close, and so we have the 2021 Euro Cup Series overall winners. We also had the 2nd race in the Argentina National Rafting Championship on the Atuel River this month - stay tuned for the overall results before the end of the year!

This month also saw the very successful conclusion to the fundraising campaign for the Rivers and Forests Alliance (RAFA) which will further the conservation work of Rafael “Rafa” Gallo.

As the Northern Hemisphere starts hunkering down for the winter, and the Southern Hemisphere dusts off their summer gear, we hope you all stay safe, and see you on a river soon.

Euro Cup 2021 Rafting Series winners announced

Ibar Euro Cup, which was held in Ušće on the Ibar River in Serbia, was the final Euro Cup 2021 event in the series.  Pre-pandemic times we’d have seen anywhere between 9 and 12 Euro Cup events happening through the year. Despite the restrictions the Euro Cup 2021 saw eight events being held, four events each in the R6 and R4 series. Congratulations must go to those event organisers who had to deal with many restrictions and fulfil many requirements to run their events.

Ibar 2021 draws the Euro Cup Series to a close in Serbia

Ibar 2021 was the final R6 Euro Cup of 2021! It was held in Ušće on the Ibar river in Serbia last Sunday. Ibar is fast becoming a raft racing destination as this was the second Euro Cup (last year was the first) but also the third competition held here and organised by Rafting Asocijacija Srbije (Rafting Association of Serbia).

The race was in question due to the difficult pandemic situation in Serbia, as well as complicated procedures for entering Serbia, which made it difficult and impossible for some teams from abroad to come and participate.
