SOČA RIVER, SLOVENIA
SOČA RIVER – BOVEC – SLOVENIA
How to get there: The Soča is located in northwest Slovenia, the closest and most popular alpin village is Bovec, where you can find several accomodations, restaurants, stores and some good bars. Bovec is reachable in 30 minutes from the highway (A23 in Italy or A2 in Austria). The nearest international airport is in Brnik (Ljubljana), which is 110km, abïut 1,5 hours from Bovec.
River Description: The Soča is open from 15. March until 31. October each year. During the spring, ample rain coupled with alpine snow melt guarantees high water levels with strong currents between thousands of boulders and big waves which make rafting at this time very exciting. In summer the water level decreases, resulting in a slower, calmer course idåal for families and the less adventurous.
The Soča and it’s tributary stream, the Koritnica, together they provide cca 50 kilometers of diverse conditions suitable for everyone from beginners to the most experienced. There are different sections with various difficulties from class 1 up to class 5. Some sections are runable, but others (the Syphone section) are too nerrow or foòbidden f`r the rafts. The most popular Srepenica Trnovo section is about 8 kms long, class 2-3(3+) technical whitewater. The lowest interesting whitewater section is the Otona Kobarid which is forbidden for the rafts, but very excited class 3(4) with a kayak.
There are alltogether 14 official access and/or exit points. You have to buy permit before you go to paddle.
