TIES Innovation Leadership in Sustainable Tourism Awards recognizes individuals and organizations who have demonstrated leadership in innovative actions that effectively promote sustainable tourism and bring tangible benefits to communities and conservation. Each year, one individual and one organization (non-profit, business, community) will be honored for their contributions, best practices, and most of all leadership in innovative actions supporting sustainable tourism. Innovation Award applicants are judged based on one example of an innovative project, product, or program developed in the previous year that advocates for uniting communities, conservation, and sustainable travel.
Project descriptions by the 2010 Innovation Award finalists are available on Your Travel Choice Blog. Project stakeholders, supporters and members are encouraged to comment on finalist submissions by Monday, August 23, 2010. Testimonial comments are considered for the final selections, to be made by August 31st, 2010

Through the kind sponsorship of Mehler Texnologies and ARK Inflatables there are now 4-man rafts available to run a rafting event on the Palmiet River at this year’s up and coming
Gravity Adventure Festival. This is a great step forward for South African rafting as it is the start of the build up of creating a series of events to be run throughout South Africa (we are hoping to run one on the Ash River as well in summer).
These events will be the training and testing ground for the future teams that wish to attend the International Rafting Federations events. The next World Rafting Champs is in Costa Rica in October 2011 – South Africa needs to select its top men’s and top women’s teams to attend this event. We thank of Mehler Texnologies, ARK Inflatables and Gravity Adventure Festival for getting this off the ground and look forward to the growing future of South African rafting.
