Fourteen of Central America’s rafters  met to discuss standardization of rafting certification guidelines. Those in attendance  president (Rafael Gallo) of the International Rafting Federation (IRF),  executive director (Bradley Jim Rowe, PhD.) from the Costa Rica Rainforest Outward Bound School (CRROBS), and guides and owners from other major Central American rafting companies.

The Euro Champs in Italy will have a R4 and R6 race.  Not just R6 as initially posted.

A new schedule will be posted shortly.

The Sports Committee, Nederlandse Raft Bond and Dutch Water Dreams have  worked out all the details for the 2010 Youth World Rafting Championship.

The youth program is

  • Monday July 12  2010: Training and Sprint
  • Tuesday July 13 2010: H2H
  • Wednesday July 14 2010: Slalom
  • Thursday July 15 2010: Downriver

Exact times will be posted closer to the event.

Youth teams will consist of athletes 21 and under. There will be a men’s division and a women’s division. A team can be mixed but will compete under the men’s division.

Since 1999 the Amazon Rafting Club, based in Iquitos, Peru has invited rafters, canoeists, rowers, paddlers and adventurers from all over the world to compete in The Great River Amazon Raft Race. The 2010 race is hoping to attract more teams than ever before and you are invited

The 3 day race will start in the town of Nauta on Friday, 24th September 2010, and finish at the Fishing club in the City of Iquitos on Sunday, 26th September 2010 mid to late afternoon. Each 4 person crew will paddle a raft they built themselves the day before the race (23rd September). Each raft will be constructed of lightweight balsa wood logs which will be provided. Then the teams will raft down the mighty Amazon River for 112 miles. The winning crews will show excellence in raft construction, teamwork, stamina and knowledge of currents and rivers.

The IRF in conjunction with Dutch Water Dreams have decided to hold the first Youth World Rafting Championships. The Youth Championship will be held in conjunction with the World Rafting Championships being held in the Netherlands on the artificial course at Dutch Water Dreams in July 2010.
